White water rafting over the river Kundalika is a great way to open your adventure diary,if you are a newbie. One of the best places for the amateur rafter, bring your friends along for some paddle action instead of blowing your day off in a mall. There's also kayaking, among other outdoorsy activities. Situated along the backwaters of the river Kundalika,are a line of cottages to provide a comfortable temporary abode on your way to a fun-filled day.

What to do

With an array of activities and a cosy little stay to choose from, rest assured that your trip will be eventful. Water sports lovers can enrol for the Rafting, or kayaking, or both! With a little extra cost,you can indulge in river-crossing, rope-bridge crossing, archery, Flying Fox, ATV rides,Jet Ski and Bumper rides.You can hone your skills at archery and rifle-shooting, in a safe and secure environment. Or you can just carve your own path and set out on a trekking expedition and walk to the nearest waterfall, or take a bicycle to ride around the neighbouring area. You can spend the night playing charades and fooling around with your friends at the dainty cottages by the backwaters. 

Near by Attractions

You can visit the Bhira Dam that dictates the water rafting experience at Kolad, and the majestic Dholwal Dam. Tamhini Falls (33.5km), one of the major attractions in this area are an hour’s drive away. History lovers can explore the Kuda Caves (46km) located an hour’s drive away, or visit the Ghosala Fort and Tala Fort situated nearby. You can even visit the Ashtavinayak Temple at Pali which is just 30km away. If you want more leisure, then the beautiful Kansai Waterfall is about 7 km away, or go to the hot springs at Uddhar just 9 km away. For the devout, you can offer your prayers at the Pali Ganesh Mandir. If you haven't had enough of the adventure, then go a trek to Sarasgad.


White Water Rafting
A good night’s sleep in the cottages would let you revive yourself enough for a few hours of White Water Rafting. Strap your life jackets on, clutch your paddle tight, and get ready for some heavy-duty rowing down the river.

Session Timings:
Every day at 8:00 am

Distance: 14 km ( approx) on the water
Rapids: 10 ranging from Grade 2 to Grade 3
Duration: Approx. 1 hr 45 minutes (depends on the flow of water)
Reporting Time: 08:00 hrs. The rapids are dam controlled. The start of the rafting activity is dependent on the release of water from the Dam.
Requirements: Minimum 14 years of Age with reasonable level of fitness. Non-swimmers are also welcome.

At the white water rafting site, you will be welcomed with a smile. A safety briefing will follow, which includes an introduction to the variety of rafting strokes and safety procedures. You will then rush headlong into a river rafting experience that will last for approx 2 hours, and leave you thrilled and charged with excitement.

Rafting + Activities + Stay
The cottages along the backwaters of the river Kundalika provide a simplistic, yet convenient accommodation. A single cottage can house a group of friends and/or family with its two bedrooms. Enjoy your stay in the cottage coupled with fun activities like white water rafting and kayaking, among other fun activities.

  • Wear comfortable clothing; shorts, t-shirt and footwear (floaters recommended), as you can get wet, avoid wearing white. 
  • Carry a towel and a change of clothes
  • Carry a mosquito repellent
  • Carry your regular medicine, and a first-aid kit for an emergency
  • Use sunscreen 
  • Carry a water bottle
  • It is compulsory for customers to wear helmets & life-jackets provided
  • If wearing spectacles, have them supported by a strap around your neck.
  • Don't carry your belongings on the raft, please leave them in your car or accommodation.
  • Don't remove your safety gear while you are in the water.
  • Avoid wearing loose clothing for safety and convenience
  • Don't bring cameras on board the raft – water will splash inside and might spoil it.
  • Don't panic if you fall in the water – your life jacket will keep you afloat.

This white water rafting activity is carried out on the Kundalika river near Kolad, which is nearly equidistant from Mumbai and Pune. From Mumbai, drive onto the Panvel Bypass Road via Kalamboli and pass Pen and Wadkhal Naka to reach Kolad. Once at Kolad, take a left towards Mulshi, after around 5km later take a left towards Durtoli and reach Kamath Village. Drive straight past Sutarwadi, Geeta Bag, and MIDC Water Treatment Plant, until you reach an easy to miss left turn. Take it to reach the starting point. From Pune, drive on Paud Road and follow the route to Mulshi and the SH 60. Take the route to Big Red Tent Road and take a right that slopes downward to reach the starting point.

Getting There

Bus : State Transport buses ply from Mumbai and Pune to Kolad. You can get down here and arrange for private transport.

Train : Konkan Railway passenger trains ply daily on the Mumbai-Goa line, on which lies Kolad.

Air : The nearest airports are Mumbai and Pune airports.
